Shepway Commercial Property Services were appointed as the Principal Contractor to manage the demolition and safe disposal of a series of existing labs and construct a new suite of high-tech labs and write-up spaces most of which were required to achieve Biosafety or containment level 4 which is the highest level of biological safety. A new plant room was constructed to house dedicated supply and extract air systems capable of achieving the high demands necessary to operate the facility.

In additional to the role of PC and overall project management Shepway directly supplied and installed the following packages of work:

• Mechanical including LTHW, chilled water, steam, medical gasses, compressed air and domestic water supply and vulcathene waste
• Suspended ceilings including concealed grid metal pan and lay-in ceiling tiles
• All surface finishes including vinyl applied to the floors, walls and ceilings of the rooms housing walk in fume cupboards
• Fire protection including Firefly fire curtain separating the service voids above the suspended ceilings
• Pipe and duct lagging including the plant room
• Glass and solid partitions, wall finishing and decorating throughout
